A neural-based account of sequential bias during perceptual judgment

چکیده

Sequential effects are prominent and pervasive phenomena that exist in most perceptual judgments. Of importance, these reflect dynamic aspects our judgment bias induced by the recent context. When making successive judgments response to a sequence of stimuli, two opposing consequences have frequently been observed: assimilation – current stimuli judged as being closer preceding than they actually are, contrast further from are. Although several cognitive accounts previously proposed, there is still lack consensus on underlying mechanism, particularly regarding insights temporal dynamics. Building upon accumulating human M/EEG findings, I propose framework explain how sequential generated, unfolded over time, eventually incorporated into formation biased judgment. By bringing biologically plausible framework, this synthetic view could account for differentially evolve, distinguish other with similar behavioral outcomes (such aftereffects priming), illuminate adaptively adjusted under impact

Robust averaging during perceptual judgment.

An optimal agent will base judgments on the strength and reliability of decision-relevant evidence. However, previous investigations of the computational mechanisms of perceptual judgments have focused on integration of the evidence mean (i.e., strength), and overlooked the contribution of evidence variance (i.e., reliability). Here, using a multielement averaging task, we show that human obser...

The Effects of the CEO’s Perceptual Bias in Economic Decision-Making and Judgment on the Capabilities of the Financial Reporting Quality

The current research sets out to identify and scrutinize the impact of the CEO’s perceptual biases in judgment and economic decision-making on the reporting quality of the firms listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange. Adopting a mixed method, the present study first seeks to detect the components and indices of CEO’s perceptual biases via critical appraisal and with the special participation of 10...

Beta oscillations reflect supramodal information during perceptual judgment.

Previous work on perceptual decision making in the sensorimotor system has shown population dynamics in the beta band, corresponding to the encoding of stimulus properties and the final decision outcome. Here, we asked how oscillatory dynamics in the medial premotor cortex (MPC) contribute to supramodal perceptual decision making. We recorded local field potentials (LFPs) and spikes in two monk...

Robust averaging during perceptual judgment is not optimal.

de Gardelle and Summerfield (1) claimed that, when judging the mean of a set of stimuli, it is optimal to downweight outliers, and that human subjects follow this robust averaging strategy. Here, we show that, in their task, the optimal observer would equally weight all observations. In ref. 1, subjects were presented with a set of eight colors that are denoted by a vector x = (x 1 ,. . ., x 8)...

Temporally distinct neural coding of perceptual similarity and prototype bias.

Psychological models suggest that perceptual similarity can be divided into geometric effects, such as metric distance in stimulus space, and non-geometric effects, such as stimulus-specific biases. We investigated the neural and temporal separability of these effects in a carry-over, event-related potential (ERP) study of facial similarity. By testing this dual effects model against a temporal...
